Male American Kestrel at Nest Box, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin
A good friend of mine set up a nest box for the local American Kestrel (Falco sparverius) pair in his barn. Since he is a wildlife videographer he also built a blind near the entrance to the box and was kind enough to let me photograph from it. This male has recently molted and his colors are as bright as they will get all year. If you look closely you can also see meat bits on his bill from his last meal.
