

Shorebirds tend to gather in huge flocks. Long-billed Dowitchers (Limnodromus scolopaceus) are no exception, though their flocks tend to be smaller then some of the smaller shorebirds. This individual though was all by itself, foraging in the shallow water for invertebrates in the mud below. I have no idea why it was alone, but it looked in great condition, and it did indeed fly away after a little while, perhaps joining up with the rest of his flock.
