Brown Pelicans
Brown Pelican Flapping its Wings at Sunrise, La Jolla, California
To get the motion effect of the flapping wings I slowed down the shutter speed when I photographed this Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) in breeding plumage. Since the image was taken at sunrise this did not compromise my depth of field to much so the bird is nicely blurred from the background. My favorite part of the image though is that the eye is still tack sharp.
